Colle del Barbarossa

Our agricultural company and farm house, “Colle del Barbarossa” is located along the road that leads from Teolo, the heart of the Euganean Hills, to Castelnuovo, a highly sought-after area since ancient times due to the advantages of its strategic position for both defense and air quality.

While the earliest signs of human civilization trace back to the Paleolithic era, it is in the Middle Ages that Teolo assumes a role of notable political and administrative significance. The ruins of the Rocca Pendice castle, which still overlooks our farmhouse, date back to this period and were the scene of ongoing struggles between the vicar of Emperor Frederick Barbarossa and the people of Padua.

Building on this historical event, poets and playwrights laid the foundation for the legend of young Speronella. It is inspired by this fascinating story that the name “Colle del Barbarossa” was born.

In the Heart of the Euganean Hills

We are located in Teolo, the pulsating heart of the Euganean Hills, at the foot of Mount Pendice, renowned for its rock climbing gym frequented by avid climbers and the historic ruins of Rocca Pendice castle.

The surrounding landscape embodies the typical features of the Euganean Hills—a collection of volcanic elevations to the south of Padua, established as a Regional Park since 1989. The Euganean terrain boasts around sixty peaks, the tallest being Mount Venda at 601 meters, each with its own natural and cultural points of interest. Numerous trails crisscross these peaks, inviting hiking enthusiasts to explore, often passing through small plots where farmers continue to cultivate predominantly vines and olive trees.

The Euganean Hills fascinated inhabitants since ancient times, particularly during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, becoming the backdrop for numerous events. We still have traces today, thanks to various testimonies, making the Euganean territory culturally attractive and prestigious. Within a few kilometers from us, you can find important sites such as the medieval village of Arquà Petrarca, the town of Monselice, Renaissance villas, medieval castles, abbeys, monasteries, and the thermal baths of Abano and Montegrotto.
